In this article we take a quick look at where the bandana comes from and what its purpose is for dogs, before we look at the 4 most original and trendy ways to attach it.

Indeed, the bandana is an accessory that has gone through history, from the time of the cowboys to the present day where it is now used as a fashion accessory.

In short, there is a long history of wearing bandanas by humans. So why shouldn't dogs wear bandanas? We see no reason not to let your pooch wear one, assuming he/she likes it. There are now plenty of dog bandana designs, in every color and pattern imaginable.

Historically, it's not particularly clear when dogs started wearing bandanas (or rather when their owners decided it was a good idea!).

But regardless, the largest gathering of dogs wearing bandanas (according to Guinness World Records) took place at Big Red Barn Farm in Pretoria, South Africa in October 2017, where 764 dogs wore bandanas, organized by an animal charity, to help the League Against Animal Cruelty.

In addition, besides their aesthetic side, dog bandanas can have many uses:

They can be used to protect your dog from the sun's rays.

  • Capture the hair of your dog: very useful if people around you have allergies to dog hair
  • Keep your dog cool in hot weather by moistening his bandana
Now if you decide to give your dog a bandana, you still need to know how to make him wear it. Here are 4 original ways:

1) The elegant collar

Step 1: Fold the bandana in 2, forming a triangle.

Step 2: Roll up the bandana, starting at the tip of the triangle, until you have a strip the width you want.

Step 3: Tie loosely around your dog's neck, (the goal not being to strangle him 😅) creating a stylish and elegant knot. You can tie this knot in the front or on the side, depending on your or your dog's preference!

2) Cowboy Style Bandana

Step 1: Simply fold the bandana in half to create a triangle.

Step 2: Tie the bandana loosely around your dog's neck, leaving the point of the triangle down and on your dog's chest.

3) Bandana cape style

Just follow the same steps as for the Cowboy style, just change the position of the bandana by putting the point of the triangle on the back of your dog. And there you have it, your super-dog is ready!

4) Bow Tie Bandana

Step 4: Begin tying a knot but loosely (don't tighten it yet!) by looping one end of the bandana around the other. Keep one end longer than the other.

Step 5: Make a loop with the longer side of the bandana.

Step 6: Begin tying a knot on the other side of the bandana.

Step 7: Before tightening the knot, pull the collar through the knot. Then, tighten it firmly so that it is secure.

Tip: Make sure you set the correct width of the collar before tying it.
